The Reimagine Café is a community space for all those involved in placemaking and reimagining their built environment, meeting on the first Tuesday of every month.

The murder of Ashling Murphy has saddened and shocked us all and exposed a deep-felt and exhausting fear that many of us experience as part of daily life. While we cannot fully grasp all the factors that led to this violence, we would like to offer a space to those who wish to speak to the design aspects of safety in public spaces.

How we design our public realm can have a huge impact on the threats we feel in public and how safe we are. This experience can be highly gendered, but also affected by our age, disability, gender identity, sexuality, race or ethnicity. This is a space for people to share their own thoughts and experiences related to this topic. We particularly welcome those who wish to contribute from a design perspective.

This Café will be facilitated by Ailish Drake, Director at Drake Hourigan Architects. The practice focuses on the creative and adaptive reuse of existing buildings. Ailish’s work extends to the public realm, parks, and play spaces, with community engagement forming an integral part of the design process.

Reimagine is a nationwide placemaking programme by the Irish Architecture Foundation, working with communities across Ireland to co-create and co-design solutions to problems or opportunities they’ve identified in their locality. Reimagine is supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Department of Rural and Community Development. The Irish Architecture Foundation is further supported by the Arts Council and the OPW.
