Placemaking is a multidisciplinary, inclusive and collaborative practice and there are no fixed guidelines or a rulebook to follow. Each placemaking project is unique and requires a lot of creativity and the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders.

In this webinar three experienced placemakers will talk through their process, methods and strategies employed in their community projects. 

Helena McElmeel is a Registered Architect and principal of Helena McElmeel Architects, a Galway based architectural practice specialising in sustainability, passive house, placemaking and public realm projects with strong emphasis on community engagement. Helena is chairperson of the RIAI Sustainability Taskforce and board member of the Passive House Association of Ireland.  She is the Business Pillar representative on Galway County Council’s Community and Culture Strategic Policy Committee and is a voluntary member of her local development association.

Kevin Loftus is a founding director at ACT, a social enterprise of architects, designers and policy specialists that have been established to accelerate the green transition in Ireland. All of Kevin’s projects have one thing in common: a strong desire to spark positive, resilient and sustainable change. With a strong passion for all things green and social, Kevin pushes the core ideas of sustainable development in his work.

Niall O’Clerigh practices across architectural design, placemaking and conservation, his projects have engaged with places and communities in Ireland, UK and Ghana. Focusing primarily on existing buildings and townscapes, his work has sought to draw out the intangible stories, embedded, to find new narratives: technological, architectural or simply in conversation. Recent projects include Making Arklow & IAF Reimagine Tuam.
