Reimagine Session – Storytelling for placemaking

When: Thursday, May 16th, from 1pm-2pm

Online via Zoom. Registration required.

A good story has the power to engage and make your narrative resonate with your audience. A placemaking project involves many different stakeholders and the ability to clearly communicate with all of them is essential throughout all the phases of your project.

In this Reimagine session you will hear about the fundamentals of storytelling and explore how to leverage your pitch when communicating with collaborators, community members, local authorities and potential funders.

Attendees will have the opportunity to workshop their cases live during the session and get some ideas on how to communicate their projects.

Sarah Westlake is a storyteller, editor, cultural producer and network weaver with twenty years of communications experience.Concerning placemaking, she served as the Editorial Director at Artplace America, managing all communications that helped solidify a community of practice around creative placemaking by amplifying the stories of the field.
Artplace was a collaboration among several foundations, federal agencies, and financial institutions that operated between 2010 and 2020 to support and strengthen the field of creative placemaking. Across many sectors, artists worked alongside planners, developers, and public officials to think differently, imagine solutions that meet a broad range of community needs, and spark and sustain public interest.

The IAF’s Reimagine Sessions are an annual series of talks designed to provide professional and community-based placemakers in Ireland with new knowledge and resources in a range of relevant topics. Sessions are facilitated by experts in their field, who also write a tie-in Reimagine Pocket Guide as a practical reference tool.

The next event of the series The Process of Placemaking takes place on 18 July.
